Time's Withering Shadow

Ippocalyptica You have all seen movies where a villain will threaten to kill one of two innocent people, and forces the hero to choose which one dies, right? Choosing between Malthusian’s and Suffering Hour’s contributions to this wondrous black/death metal split is sort of the same scenario. Fortunately, just as the hero always finds a way to deal with the villain and save both hostages, both bands bring their A-game here, with Malthusian being more aggressive and Suffering Hour more esoteric. Love it! Favorite track: Suffering Hour - Temporal Lapse.

Raycatcher I will never forget when I first listened to Malthusian's powerful demo "MMXII." That experience was the first time I had to examine a musical record rigorously to fully apprehend it. I realized that Malthusian is not the kind of music that is comprehensible by listening to it only once. Just as Malthusian's devastating music has been of my most potent aesthetic experiences, so too do Suffering Hour's uncompromising work enchant and move me in ways not conceivable. I have been waiting for this.

J.E. Suarez The first new Malthusian music in a few years is as fucking brilliant as all their other stuff has been... murky, mystical, ritualistic black/death/doom with an occasional sick riff or intelligible croak rising out of the vortex. "Delirium" coalesces and dissolves just like "The Gloom Epoch" from their last album, it's incredible. The Suffering hour side is great too, and paired nicely with the Malthusian tracks.
